YFT Trikes fly to Wangaratta Aero Club BBQ

Trikes at Wangaratta
Five pilots in their aircraft departed YFT after the fog cleared. The aircrew were all ready to leave earlier, but the weather had other ideas.
The fog hung around until 1230 hours. Just as we were about to pull the pin on the day, the fog started to lift. All five aircraft were pushed out the YFT hangars and were pre-flighted ready to go.
It didn’t take long before the five aircraft were all departing on runway 19 at Yarrawonga for Wangaratta. The cloud base was only 1300 feet at first.

Flying to Wang
Three nm from the aerodrome the cloud opened up and all five aircraft climbed through the holes into the bright sunshine and tracked for Wang. It was decided to make a straight in approach on runway 18. One by one, the pilots set themselves up for a good looking arrival. Wangaratta Aero Club put on a fantastic lunch, and the Chocolate cake was to die for. (None of our Pilots had any for fear of being over MTOW). After a bit of a chin wag with our friends, we decided to head off to Corowa and then back to Yarrawonga. There was no wind, so we all lined up on runway 36. One by one we departed into the wide blue yonder.

Tracking to Corowa we started to catch up to cloud again. It was broken and looked just great as the five aircraft flew above it in formation. Over Corowa we turned for home and once again the cloud started to subside. We moved to the north of the aerodrome and lined up for a straight in approach on runway 19. Each aircraft was now in line for the runway at one mile increments, and didn’t this look great! Anyone on the approach path would have had a grand view. Down and clear, we pushed the aircraft back into the hangars for the night. Our flight was over… But only for today. We have next weekend to do it all again!

The flight home
Thanks to Pilot David Hunt, Pilot Michael Sheel, Pilot Willem Lombard, Pilot Robbie Knowles, for sharing another great day in the air with CFI Peter McLean.
These pilots were the only ones to fly into Wangaratta. Everyone else drove….
