4038Granddaughters go flying with BAD GRANDAD…

I don’t get to see my grandchildren very much. I guess it is because I am known as the BAD GRANDAD! Yesterday three of my granddaughters and there parents came to visit. I decided to take the three girls up for a fly. The comments were great once I got them away from mum and dad. Each little girl got a very special flight. They all had a great time and saw amazing things.

    SST wing issue…

4033Kel arrived this weekend and after flying for a wile he said that his wing was not flying right. After talking about the problem I went for a flight with Kel. On take-off the aircraft lunged sideways on take-off and climbed at a very slow rate. This was very unusual for the SST wing. The landing was made at very high speed as well. After thinking about this for a wile I pulled out the batten profile and we removed each batten one at a time and checked them. The left side battens were out by quite a bit, so I put them back to the shape on the profile. We then flew Kel aircraft in the same way as we had done before. What a difference… The aircraft now had no Violante turn to the left on take-off and the climb rate was back to what it should be. So if you are having a problem with your SST wing or any other wing first check your batten profile.

    Flying, Flying, and more Flying….

The last few weeks have been very busy at YFT. More new students and more flying than ever. YFT has a Chinese student Feng and he is now starting his Navigation side of flying. Feng is intending to fly around Australia. David is almost ready to Solo. Nick past his Licence test, so we have another 3964 licenced pilot about to fly the friendly skies. Kel and Jen have been up flying around, along with Jon and Alison. Kyle and Casey flew to Mt Beauty the other week for lunch. AV8or flew in from Mansfield (thank for the cake Av8or) yes we all enjoyed it. There were many more pilots and crews who flew in so If I have forgotten to mention you… Sorry. It has just been one of the busiest time at YFT of this year. 3965The new aircraft are due to arrive on the 19th of September, which meant we will miss out on a flight to White Cliffs. Bugger! Peter and Trevor flew over from Deni to fly around YYWG. Trevor flew the Skypper and Peter did his BFR.

Ridge Running the Cabinet Mountains – An Amazing Flight!

    Friday, August 7th, 2015

Recorded late July ‘15, we held our annual Fly-in at Bonners Ferry Idaho which is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the inland Pacific Northwest. While the temps during the day reached 100, the mornings were cool, still, and perfect for flying. So we had actually 5 trikes take off for the Cabinets. Once we discovered the winds to be almost nonexistent in the mountains we dove in and and emerged with some of the most spectacular footage I’ve recorded. Since I modified one camera to record our audio, you can now fly along and listen to our amazement as we ran ridges, crested peaks, and dove deep into the valleys of this magnificent place. I had my hands full trying to keep up with George!

New Student David flies the X-582…

3938New Student David flies the X-582 and loves it. David likes the Airborne X-582 so much that he decided to buy one. In the photo you can see David taxiing out for the first time in the Airborne X-582 to do a circuit. The wind was blowing 20kts and it was a full crosswind on runway 01. David handled it really well and he only has 2 hours of flight training.

Two new Air Creation Tanargs for YFT

    Tuesday, August 4th, 2015

    Two new Tanargs for YFT…

Black_4928Yes two new Tanarg’s will arrive at YFT soon. One Yellow and One Black. No names for them yet but I am sure that will change once they arrive. Both new aircraft have been fitted with the new MGL Discovery EFIS and by the way the factory went after fitting our two aircraft with them, it seems that all new Tanargs and Skyppers will be fitted with the MGL Discovery EFIS in the future.
