But today he came to his senses and jumped in his trusty Foxbat and flew up to see us at YFT. He had decided to take a day off and fly to Yarrawonga and then down to Benalla and stay overnight there before heading home.

    Gary Masters Microlight

    Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Gary now holds a restricted pilot’s licence!

Gary, flying as free as a plover

Gary, flying as free as a plover

Today, Gary, our full time student from NT, enjoyed flying free as a plover. Peter, his instructor, had been ejected from the aircraft for this flight, and he flew in a second XT-912 SST while Gary chose the route and altitude to fly. It ended up being 125 nm round trip from Yarrawonga to Corowa, Benalla, Shepparton, then Tocumwal before returning to Yarrawonga. The weather was perfect, and Gary is eating into the hours required for obtaining his passenger endorsement. What an enjoyable flight.

Gary 2Yesterday Gary and Peter flew to Echuca on a navigation exercise, which included some viscious thermals and a 35 knot  headwind. This made an interesting flight home, with a 35 knot tailwind! Gary certainly earned his “joy” flight today, didn’t he!?!

    Bundalong’s Bunnings Warehouse is open!

    Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Bundalong’s Bunnings Warehouse is open for business at last!

New BunningsDuring a flight today, a new landmark was discovered near Bundalong. You’ll need to go to the Bunnings website to find the address… Over-flying it, we noticed that they stock a lot of farm machinery along with other crapp diaplayed on the site. I don’t yet know if we can give this store the title of “Bunnings Aerospace”.

    Formation Training

    Thursday, September 15th, 2011

    David earns his Formation Endorsement.

Vee FormationAfter quite a few months and many hours in the air and in the books, David has passed his Formation Endorsement.

Starting off with a one-on-one flight, and ended with being part of a five aircraft formation the Formation Endorsement is one discipline you really have to earn. David has flown in all the different formations from echelon, to line astern, and he has also completed formation take-offs and landings. To complete the discipline, David has also been responsible for an Element of three aircraft, as the flight leader. Well done.

    SOLO Man Gary

    Thursday, September 8th, 2011

    Gary goes Solo

    Gary the Solo Man

    Gary the Solo Man

Gary started flight training only last week. With up to three hours flying and many hours of theory, today was the day. Yes Gary went Solo this afternoon. Gary comes from Gove in the Northern Territory, and he already owns an Airborne XT-912 Streak 3 aircraft. After deciding to do his flight training at YFT he booked his flight from Gove to Albury and then it was on the bus to his pre-arranged accommodation in Yarrawonga. After arriving, Gary picked up the YFT hire car and then it was into the flying. He has only had one day where he was not able to fly, and yes, Gary has had a wide range of flying conditions, from calm air to 25kt cross winds, and today he had thermals. It was now time to go SOLO…. CFI Peter asked Gary if he would like to go solo, and with a “Yes”, Peter got out of the aircraft. Then four more aircraft decided to make their way to the runway for circuits as well. What a First Solo! Gary flew a textbook circuit. Well done Gary.
