    Billabong Creek in Flood

On Sunday 24th October 2010, a group of pilots based in Yarrawonga Flight Training’s Hangar 19 made an impromptu decision to fly north to Urana to see the extent of the floodwaters from Billabong Creek, Wangamong Creek and surrounding areas.

    Charlie get a Jabiru….

    Charlie and his Jabiru

    Charlie and his Jabiru

Charlie arrived for a chin wag on Sunday, but not in the Cessna 150. Charlie had sold the 150 and purchased a Jabiru. We have known Charlie for many years and he has flown a number of aircraft types. I nearly purchased Charlie’s X-Air many years ago and I still regret not doing it. This Jabiru will suit Charlie down to the ground.

    Paul Flies again…

    Paul after his BFR

    Paul after his BFR

Paul flies every now and again, and he is rated on Tecnams and Trikes. On Sunday Paul arrived to do his BFR. Paul hadn’t flown for nearly a year. He decided to try the one of YFT’s new XT-912 SST . Well Paul took to it like a duck to water. Not only did Paul pass is BFR but he also converted to the faster SST aircraft. Well done Paul.

For all you pilots and friends who, over the years, have seen Anne stitching hexagons in the hangar, and buying extraordinary amounts of patchwork fabric whilst travelling around in a microlight with her long suffering pilot husband, Peter, she is pleased to announce winning two First Prizes, a Highly Commended, and “Best Piece of Patchwork” in the 2010 Yarrawonga Spring Show.

    Microlight QANTAS Pilot?

    Monday, October 4th, 2010

    Rex only flies QANTAS!

    Rex flies QANTAS

    Rex flies QANTAS

Cathy and family had purchased a gift voucher for Rex to have a microlight TIF. But Rex only flies Qantas. So Cathy painted up a QANTAS  sign  which was duly attached to the YFT hangar wall to make Rex feel comfortable. Cathy also presented him with a copy of a Last Will and Testament document for Rex to sign, a pair of floaties and a floating whistle (just in case he landed in Lake Mulwala) and a gold painted wooden cross.

    The ladies Bless the Flight

    The ladies Bless the Flight

We couldn’t quite work out whether he was to wear it , or if it was to ward off any lurking vampires, until Rex was safely in the back seat of the appropriately named “Abandon All Hope” black XT-912 SST aircraft. They took his photo for posterity, then two of the girls took the cross onto the taxilane, knelt in front of the aircraft and “blessed” the flight.

Yes, Rex was nervous , (wouldn’t you be with all the hoo-haa?) but he really enjoyed his first flight in a microlight, and he has added YFT to the airlines he will fly with…

Microlight Students Take to the Air

    Monday, October 4th, 2010

Two new Pilots in the making.

Lucas and Tom decided to go for a flight about a month ago… After the flight they were hooked.

Lucas made a booking for a TIF back in September and he was lucky enough to get a flight wile YFT was conducting Formation Flying. This was the moment that he decided, he should become a pilot.

Lucas and Tom managed to take a half hour flight so they really got to see what the XT-912 SST could do. Lucas booked in for another flight the same day and decided to start flying lessons. Tom did a similar flight and was also hooked. So Tom booked in for instruction as well.

Last Saturday was not the best day for your first flying lesson. But Tom was keen to go. Off we went, and a picture says a thousand words. Also, I think Tom will make a good pilot.

Microlight, Steve goes Solo in SST

    Friday, October 1st, 2010

Steve Bartolic goes Solo this morning.

    Steve after his first Solo

    Steve after his first Solo

Steve has been Training at YFT for only a few days, and today he did his first Solo flight in one of YFT’s XT-912 SST aircraft in quite turbulent conditions.

Steve had been flying in aircraft number 72, however he Soloed in aircraft 79. This didn’t put Steve off at all, he did all his calls perfectly. The only only problem was the call sign. He was in Aircraft 79 and he kept calling 72. Well done Steve!
