Amy and Lamb Chop
Amy and Jillian Bear had spent a weekend away with Mum and Dad. She flew in to YFT in VH-DYA from Point Cook and was whisked away in the Rent-a-bomb for a fun weekend, along the Murray River. On Sunday , while dad packed the aircraft to return home, Amy and Jillian were entertained by Fleecia, Shaun, and especially Lamp Chop, in Hangar 19.

Amy ready for the flight home
Amy was readied for the trip by mum with “bribe currency” (in the form of her own stash of lollipops and other tasty treats) whilst she was airborne.

Les arrives in his XT-912 SST
Les was pleased that his Airborne Xt-912 SST was up for the flight from Barwon Heads to Yarrawonga, in order to do the “Human Factors” course at YFT. A head wind (naturally!) had slowed him down a little, but his recent knee restoration had behaved admirably. With Tony, in his trusty Karatoo, and Harold in his Gazelle, the three friends had chosen great weather to enjoy their day away from the coast.

Tony flies in from Barwon Heads
A “hundred dollar coffee” (spend your $100 on fuel to fly to YFT and have a free coffee) on arrival, was soon followed by a trip into Yarrawonga township in the YFT “rent-a-bomb” hire car for a substantial lunch for some, while Les worked away in the briefing room to complete his course. Hopefully the tail wind they took off in, lasted all the way home.
Flight to the Snow

Ready for departure
Friday 17th July 2009, one of those crisp midwinter mornings. We wake to see the pale pre-dawn light sifting through the blinds. Being a week day we will have to return in time to accept pilot shop deliveries and answer phone calls from students about whether the weather is suitable for their flight training, scheduled for the afternoon, but if we get airborne very soon we can manage a reasonable length recreational flight for ourselves!

Darcy flies new TX-912 SST
Darcy O’Bryan, aged 15, flies the new XT-912 SST Microlight. Darcy has only 5.7 hours of flight time, and today he took to the skies in one of YFT new Airborne XT-912 SST Microlight aircraft. Darcy completed two circuits and then he was off for a flight around the lake. Darcy mentioned that he thought the new SST would be harder to fly than the standard XT-912 with the Streak 3 wing, but this was not the case. Like most of YFT’s student pilot’s Darcy has passed all the CASA exams early. Darcy is very confident on the radio, and is very aware of the operation of the transponder. After his flight today, Darcy has accrued 8 hours flight time and completed over 25 landings, all under the watchful eye of his CFI, Peter McLean.
Saturday the sixth of March 2009 was a lovely day for pilots to fly to Hangar 19, Yarrawonga Aerodrome, to begin another flying adventure together. For some, the flight to the beginning of the Nav-ex trip is a longer excursion than the complete itinerary of the organized holiday, but it’s the camaraderie that is the prize for all the effort of joining the group. This year we took a gamble to fly along the south coast for a couple of days hoping to avoid bad weather. Local knowledge from Millicent, South Australia, suggested that March was probably the most stable month to attempt a group trip on the coast.

David's new Aircraft
David Hunt took delivery of his XT-912, and then went for a test flight. David has been learning to fly at YFT, and passed his flight test on the 2nd of Feb this year. David has continued flying and after completing half his required Nav flights he decided to buy his own aircraft. He chose the XT-912, the same type he had been learning in, and immediately purchased a GME 410G PLB and the new Aera 550 Garmin GPS, thus including all important safety gear and a sophisticated navigational aid from the outset of his aircraft ownership.

David Departs on RWY 19
Charney, David’s wife, tried a helmet on yesterday, and is now looking forward to David obtaining his passenger endorsement, and then a calm autumn afternoon for her first flight with him.
